A K M Alamgir
President
Professor A. K. M. Alamgir, PhD, is a Canadian academic researcher and humanitarian
dedicated to advancing equity, human rights, and social justice through research, policy
engagement, and institutional leadership. His work spans academia, civil society, and community
systems, with a sustained focus on addressing structural inequities affecting immigrants,
refugees, displaced populations, and scholars at risk.
He serves as the volunteer President of Humanity First Alliance, a Canadian humanitarian
voluntary not-for-profit organization committed to upholding universal human values, defending
human rights, and promoting international solidarity. In this capacity, he provides strategic
leadership in advocacy, governance, and protection initiatives aligned with democratic principles
and multilateral cooperation. He is also the Executive Director of Group 71: Integrated Progress
of Bangladesh, a Canada-registered pro-democratic and secular organization.
Professionally, Prof. Alamgir is the Director of Knowledge and Learning at Access Alliance in
Toronto, where he oversees research governance, quality management, data security, strategic
planning, and realist evaluation within a large charitable organization. His leadership strengthens
accountability, organizational learning, and knowledge mobilization to inform policy and
practice.
A former professor and academic leader in Bangladesh, he currently serves as an Adjunct
Professor at York University and a guest teacher at the University of Toronto. An Academic
Editor of PLOS ONE, his mixed-methods, community-based research advances health equity,
social determinants of health, and evidence-informed Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
frameworks.

Shayla Ahmed is a distinguished human rights advocate and activist, known for her leadership in promoting civil liberties, gender equality, and the rights of marginalized communities. A renowned podcaster, she leverages media platforms to amplify underrepresented voices and foster informed public discourse at national and international levels.
She holds an academic background in Public Health studies and serves as Secretary of the Institute for Strategic Dialogue (USA), a nonprofit policy advocacy organization that connects developing and developed countries to exchange ideas, share perspectives, and strengthen global governance and human rights. Additionally, she is Director of Media and Communication at GIPB, leading strategic advocacy and public outreach initiatives
